Living alone in a one-bedroom apartment decorated with laundry and take-out boxes, The Single Guy is writing a musical. Rehearsals start in two days and there is still no closing number, so he calls an old friend and starts telling the story of the show, hoping that will inspire – something. The Single Guy assures his friend he is not writing about himself, “it’s just a fun little show based on the traditional comedy formula—you know, boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl”. An all-nighter produces a final song that may not be quite formula, or quite final…
